Experiencing Racism

Experiencing Racism

God made people, and people created racism. In my opinion, everyone is human, and there is no diffrence. It does not matter what skin color you are, whats your religion, etc.. Unfortunately, racism happens today. Here are two personal stories of my sister, and my uncle who once experienced racism.

"It was my first day of 4th grade," my sister Audrey explains. "I didnt know english at all, everyone else knew how to speak fluent english." "Two months passed, and everyone teased me day after day, I didnt have any friends, I didnt know anybody, and I was stuck with everyone pointing at me, and calling me The Girl that dosent know english. They sometimes even teased me about how I dressed. I couldnt wait untill the day I could speak english like everyone else. I felt diffrent from everyone, as if I wasnt human like they were. One day, an american girl told me , haha ! I feel bad for you, you dont have any friends, you dont know english. I felt humiliated. Therefore, I couldnt take it anymore, and I started to tease her in spanish! Of course she didnt understand a word I was saying, but everyone else who knew spanish understood what I was saying. Her bestfriend was Mexican, so she told the teacher  all the stuff I said to her in english. I got in trouble, and so did the girl. Finally, in 5th frade I learned how to speak english. I had friends, and all the stuff I didnt have before when I didnt know english. I relize that humans ate cruel, and they will find any way to tease you. But you can make a diffrence."

My uncle Jesus has also experienced racsim. My uncle is from The United States, he know english, but there are some "problems." His skin color, his name, and his physical features. Many people dont belive that he is from America , but he reallly is! One time, he was looking for a job, and he insterted some applications to diffrent types of bussinesses, and jobs. Days passed, and he never got a call for an interview. He relized that that was strange. So, he decided to go back to one of the places that he had applied to and he asked if they were going to hire him. It turned out that he was being judged by his mexican name, and not by what he really was. So, since his name is so mexican they had him on a waiting list. When he got that interview, He actually got judged by his pysical features, and his skin color. Therefore, he never got that job. He felt like he hated himself. He states that he was disgusted by his name, skin color, and his physical features. So, from then on he became so unsure of himself! But he has learned that being unsure of himself wont help him in any sort of way. He relized that he is he, and nobody can change who he is.

  2. You're right, Breissy. These incidents that you shared were wrong and hurtful. Keep writing about your feelings and things that happen in your life. You'll find that a lot of Americans will agree with you! Being mean doesn't get you anywhere. Oh, and I think Breissy is a really cute name :)

  6. Thank you for sharing these stories. It was very powerful to see how racism plays out in these people's lives. The individual stories are just as important as the broader social theories.
